News & Notes From Across The Sound

-Much like their parent club, the Sound Tigers are off to an impressive start to the 2014-2015 campaign. They sit in a 4 way tie atop the AHL's Eastern Conference with 17 points and are riding a 3 game winning streak after beating the Norfolk Admirals and Albany Devils twice last week. Free agent signee Harry Zolnierczyk and second year pro Alan Quine are leading the team with 14 and 13 points respectively. Additionally, Quine is now on a 7 game point scoring streak with Zolnierczyk right on his tail at 6 games.

-Although the Islanders power play is at a respectable 21.3% (9th overall), they might want to take some notes from the kids in Bridgeport. This past Saturday against the Albany Devils, Bridgeport went 6 for 8 on the power play which set a new record for the franchise. As a result, the Sound Tigers now own the second best power play in the AHL with a 29.3% success rate.

-The Sound Tigers now have 46 goals on the season which puts them in a tie for most overall with the Chicago Wolves.

-The 2013-2014 season was a rough one for goaltender Kevin Poulin at both the NHL and AHL levels. As with previous seasons, he struggled to find consistency in his game and going into this season his status as the starting goalie for the Sound Tigers wasn't a given after the Islanders signed David Leggio. However, this season Kevin Poulin is writing a much different story. After winning his past 4 starts, Poulin is 6-1-1 with a 2.16 GAA and a .935 save percentage. It's refreshing to see Poulin finally get some rhythm to his game. His raw talent has always been there, so lets hope this is the norm for him going forward.

-Arthur Staple of Newsday tweeted earlier today that injured prospects Griffin Reinhart (lower body) and Sebastian Collberg (lower body) are both a week or two away from returning to the Bridgeport lineup. Thankfully neither have serious injuries that will keep them out long term.

-The Sound Tigers are heading into a 3 game weekend starting tonight at the XL Center in Hartford to battle the Wolf Pack at 7:00pm. They will then return home to the Webster Bank Arena to play the Wolf Pack again tomorrow at 7:00pm and finish off the weekend with a 3:00pm matinee on Sunday against the Springfield Falcons.
