Ryan Strome Awarded AHL Rookie Of The Month & AHL Player Of The Week
Lately, most news involving the New York Islanders organization in any way has been negative. That changed yesterday when 2011 5th overall pick Ryan Strome was named the AHL rookie of the month and AHL player of the week. The distinction is something that should excite us fans since Strome is the Islanders top prospect at the moment.
Over the month of November, Strome tallied 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points while becoming a lead by example type of player for the Sound Tigers. The top line of Strome with Mike Halmo and Anders Lee has been as good as any in the AHL. In addition to the month as a whole, Strome put up 3 goals and 3 assists with a plus 4 rating last week alone.
Strome producing in the AHL at this elite type of level means only good news for the Islanders. With the struggles on Long Island well known, Strome's services may be needed in Uniondale sooner rather than later. Should Strome be recalled during this cold streak the Isles are on, there will probably be more pressure than normal on him to produce given his skill set, the numbers he has been putting up and the desperation of the Islanders. Whatever the situation may be when he is eventually called up, he is already showing the maturity level to be able to handle himself at the NHL level.
With any luck, Strome will give the Islanders the boost they need when he is called upon.
