Battle: New York; It's Game Day: Rangers @ Islanders
The New York Rangers will head into Nassau Coliseum on Thursday night in a state of shock, shutout by the Buffalo Sabres the night before 1-0. The Sabres and Jhonas Enroth! Enroth, the Sabres rookie tender, picked up his first NHL shutout Wednesday night after getting the start in place for Ryan Miller, who is day-to-day with an upper body injury.
As for the Islanders, their final showdown of the season with the New Jersey Devils ended in defeat as the Islanders lost 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Isles were able to tie it up at two, but ultimately lost thanks to a beauty of a shot by Devils’ defenseman Andy Greene.
Thursday will be the final contest of the season between the Islanders and Rangers. Although the Islanders cannot eliminate the Blue Shirts, who are currently tied for eighth place in the Eastern Conference, Thursday’s game will be of major significance to the other New York Team.
With Rick DiPietro getting the start on Wednesday against the Devils, does this mean Jack Capuano will start Al Montoya once again against his former team? It certainly looks that way, considering how shaky DiPietro looked against the Devils.
It seems as if Dylan Reese and Mark Katic will stay with the Islanders for another game as it has not been confirmed whether Gervais or Jurcina will return on Thursday. Both Reese and Katic had decent games on Wednesday night. The Islanders are however expecting to have lead goal getter Michael Grabner back in the lineup on Thursday after missing Wednesday’s game due to his girlfriend going into labor.
