Can the Third Jerseys Break Up The Isles Losing Funk? Gameday vs. Philadelphia

The Islanders will don their brand new black third jerseys tonight as they look to rebound after their second straight shutout loss. Tonight, the Isles will take on the Philadelphia Flyers at the Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders head into this game 5-10-3 and the Flyers are 11-6-3.

With the recent loss of Mark Eaton on the Isles blue line, the Islanders called up Micheal Haley from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Not only will Haley provide toughness into the Isles lineup, but he can create a few scoring chances here and there.

Coach Jack Capuano has yet to announce tonight's starting goaltender, but it could be either Rick DiPietro or Anders Nilsson, who made his NHL starting debut last game in the 5-0 loss to the Penguins. It's a coin toss.

Offense is key for tonight's game, making key plays, and putting the puck behind Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, who has had his ups and downs this season so far.

Is it very hard to decifer, but there is a chance that tonight's game will be the last straw for this Islanders team. A change needs to be made, it might not be right away, but one will be made either in the front office, behind the bench, or in the dressing room.

It is obvious how frustrating these losses have been to the Islanders players and coaches. It really only takes one game to break out of a slump like the one the Islanders are in now.

The Flyers are without their forward Jaromir Jagr, who they signed this offseason. Jagr has been the Flyers most offensive player with 6 goals and 11 assists. Another player who always explodes against the Islanders is arguably one of the most underrated players in the NHL, Claude Giroux.

The Islanders cannot let the Flyers defense push them around tonight. With players such as Chris Pronger and Brayden Coburn, the Isles need to be aggressive tonight.
