Isles Take on Sens in a President's Day Matinee
Another huge game for the Isles dawns upon them. They face the Ottawa Senators this afternoon in an absolute MUST win game. The Senators have been a huge surprise to the NHL this season. A lot of people expected them to have the same team as last year and play as such, but it hasn't been that way at all. They've actually had a pretty good year!
Although it is undecided as to who is in net for the Isles, but you can assume Craig Anderson in the net for the Sens. Anderson, who has started 54 games this season is 27-19-6 in those games, with a GAA of 2.93. Anderson has been the real go to guy that the Senators haven't had in years.
The Senators offense has been hot this year, too. With the offense of Spezza, Alfredsson, and Milan Michalek. Michalek has been an interesting story. He started the year off with a complete bang but then cooled off and is now surpassed on the list for most points in the NHL.
Speaking of league leaders, the Islanders have a player who is top five for assists. And that is P.A. Parenteau. Parenteau, who has 54 points, has set career highs for himself and is now a crucial part of the Islanders roster. P.A. seems to be on the trading block for this upcoming trading deadline. Hopefully the way he has played this season keeps him on the Island for a long time.
Going back to the Islanders goaltending fiasco now, if I was Jack Capuano, I would start Poulin tomorrow. With Nabokov out for a little while with the flu, and Montoya not on his A-game, it makes the most sense to start Poulin. Another reason being that he has had the most success this season for both the Isles and the Sound Tigers. Montoya is healty but personally, I don't trust him 100% in net right now.
