Poulin is Between the Pipes as the Isles Take on Carolina
Tonight’s game is one of the most important games of the year for the New York Islanders. With the Hurricanes being only one point below the 13th place Isles, this is a must win for both teams.
Cam Ward is between the pipes for the Hurricanes. Ward has played 50 games this season for the Canes, and throughout those games he is 21-18-10. Ward is a veteran goaltender and the Islanders need to crack his code early tonight and gain a nice comfortable lead.
For the Isles, they will start Kevin Poulin. Poulin was called up yesterday on an emergency basis since Nabokov has “flu-like symptoms”. In Poulin’s last game, he played spectacular against the Hurricanes. Hopefully for his sake, the team’s sake, and the fan’s sake, he can do it again tonight.
Steve Staios enters the game tonight after sitting out with flu-like symptoms as well. He will replace Ty Wishart on defense.
Some quick notes before tonight’s game:
- P.A. Parenteau is only one point shy of his career high, 53, which he set last season.
- Tampa Bay, who is the team directly in front of the Islanders in the standings, takes on Washington tonight.
- Montreal, who is ahead of Tampa, takes on New Jersey tomorrow.
So hopefully we’ll see some "PouLINsanity" tonight at the Coliseum and the Islanders can take two points tonight.
