We're Going To Disneyland...To Play The Ducks!
The Islanders look to extend their 3 game win streak tonight against the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks have had just a horrid season this season. Being 10-22-6, they are in 14th place in the West and 29th place in the NHL.
Not only are they struggling, but they have gone through a coaching change as well when Randy Carlyle was relieved of his duties and replaced by former Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau. Although there has been some improvement under Boudreau, the Ducks cannot seem to get it together. The Ducks have a very talented team however, with players such as Getzlaf, Ryan, Perry, Selanne, and Fowler. None of which seem to be producing.
As far as the Islanders are concerned, they are going to need to feed off of the Ducks woes this season and extend their winning streak to four. The Islanders are playing with confidence now, and as I always stress, confidence wins games.
The NHL is unpredictable as everyone knows, and with that being said, the Ducks can break out at anytime; so it is crucial that the Islanders put many points on the board early in this game. Remember: the Ducks do have a very talented team and they have shown it in the past.
As far as the goalie situation goes, my brain says Nabokov as does my gut. Nabokov has been solid during this winning streak and the Islanders should just let him play until he shows he needs a rest.
The Islanders announced that Dylan Reese will be joining the team in Anaheim after Mike Mottau was sent back to Long Island for examination. The defenseman who needs the most work in my opinion is Mark Streit. Streit has been so off this season, it almost looks as if he just hasn't gotten his swagger back from before he was injured last season. Streit has been struggling keeping the puck in the zone, putting pucks on net, and even making simple passes. It's either he just needs to sit a few games and clear his head, or something is seriously wrong.
John Tavares has been the first star of the past 3 games, and from seeing the way he has been playing as of late, it is not surprising. Tavares has reached his full potential this season and you can see that just by watching him in the offensive zone. The biggest flaw I have been noticing this season is when one players leads an offensive rush, there is no one around him until the player carrying the puck gets to the crease. If the Islanders can work on timing, they will be in good shape.
Should be an interesting matchup tonight as it is always nice to see the Isles face a Western team who is rarely seen and it is a huge two points for the Islanders to gain.
