NY Islanders End Home Stand Vs.Washington Capitals
The Islanders and their fans will need to shake off Thursday's heart breaking loss to the NY Rangers in OT. The two points that a victory would have brought meant so much. The team would have been in an 8th place playoff spot, but that was not to be.
The penalty called against Michael Grabner only 21 seconds into
OT put the nail in the coffin for the Isles. The team was so incensed, and the players and coaching staff really let the ice officials know it, in no uncertain terms..well maybe some certain terms...(photo credit:THFANBLOG/flickr)
NY Islanders assistant coach Brent Thompson has been suspended by the NHL for his inappropriate and abusive comments to the officials post game. He will miss the next two. If only they could hear me from my chair, I would probably be banned fot the season.
However, we must shake this off and be ready for the Washington Capitals in an early 1pm afternoon game today at the Coli. This will be the last of the 7 game homestand. Feels like it went very fast, but maybe just fine as the Isles play so well on the road.
The Isles and the Caps have very similar records:
Islanders are 10-11-3 putting them fourth in the Atlantic Division
Capitals are 10-11-1 putting them third in the Southeast Division
However, in the last 10 games the Isles are 4-4-2 Caps are 7-3-0

The Isles will have to come out strong and be able to play a full 60. The Caps started their season slow, but are playing well now. One reason is Alex Ovechkin, who struggled at the start of the season, but now seems to have hit his stride.
The Islanders PP is 23.9% (21/91) The Capitals PP is 26.3%(66/86)
The Capital sit in 12th and the Islanders in 10th in the Eastern Conference. Both teams are in the mix fighting for a coveted playoff spot. This should be an exciting game and hopefully all come ready to play this early afternoon.
Let's Go Islanders!!
