Islanders continue road trip with visit to Toronto
The Islanders continue their north of the border road trip with a stop in Toronto tonight to visit the struggling Maple Leafs. The Islander will look to build off of at victory Saturday night in Montreal.
With the playoffs out of reach for the Islanders they will look to finish out the season strong and give themselves and the fan a positive outlook for next season. This will be the final meeting of the season between these two teams. The Maple Leafs currently hold the lead in the season series winning all three pervious match ups. The previous meeting between these two teams ended with an overtime victory for the Leafs after PA Parenteau scored in the final 13 seconds to tie it. Toronto will be looking to rebound from an embarrassing lost last night in Boston, where they were handled 8-0.
The Islanders lines for the game have yet to be announced but I wouldn’t expect many changes from the game in Montreal. I would expect Nabokov to get the start after getting his rest Saturday night. The Islanders will go with the same forward lines as Saturday and will dress 7 defensemen for warm-ups. Staois will see how he feels during warm-ups and then decide if he can play.
Some stats to watch during tonight’s game. In the last 4 games an Islanders defenseman has been a part of every single Islanders goal. Earlier in the season the Islanders had a problem with defenseman not contributing on the offensive end, but in the last four games that doesn’t seem to be a problem. John Tavares is still showing that he is and will be a star in this league. He is currently 10th in the league in scoring with 70 points and if he gets one more before the season he will join an elite group of Islander greats who have gotten 71 points in a season before the age of 21. That group is Bossy, Trottier, and Potvin, all of which have their numbers retired, not a bad group to be a part of. (Photo Credit: Flickr/Robert Kowal)
The puck drops at 7:00pm tonight so have the popcorn ready and be prepared to watch a good one!
