Islanders Travel to New Jersey for Tuesday Night Match-Up
The Islanders make their last visit to New Jersey this season on Tuesday night. As the season winds down and the playoffs officially out of reach the Islanders will look for positives for next season out of every game. The Islanders will also look to rebound back from the last minute lost to the Devils the last time these two teams meet.
One thing to watch for in this game is the NHL debut of Matt Donovan. The defenseman has had a very good season for the Sound Tigers were he scored 42 points (10 goals and 32 assists) in 69 games this season. This could be sort of a try out for the young guy as the team looks towards next season. He will be paired with Dylan Reese tonight as Staios and Jurcina are scratched. The forward lines will stay the same from Sunday. They were:
Montoya will get the start in goal again.
Another thing that I will be watching tonight is the better play of Nino Niederreiter. The last few games I feel he has really improved his play and has had some quality scoring chances that I am sure he would love to bury. In a year that some fans feel was wasted for Nino, to be playing strong near the end of the season gives fans a preview of the future.
The Devils come into the game holding the NHL’s best penalty kill with an 89.9% success rate. They also lead the league in shorthanded goals with 15 so far this season. This will put Doug Weight’s power play to the test in tonight’s game. Hedberg will start tonight in goal for the Devils as they look to continue their strong play and enter the playoffs playing on a winning streak.
The game will start at 7pm so tune in as there are only 3 games left in the season.
