Prospect Report 4/10/12: Playoff Update

With most hockey seasons coming to a close it is important to keep up with the Islanders prospects that are still making a push in the playoffs. Ryan Strome and Kirill Kabanov are both still taking part in the OHL and QMJHL playoffs that are currently on going.

Ryan Strome and the Niagara Ice Dogs started their second round playoff series against the Brampton Battalion this past weekend. The Ice Dogs were able to take the first two games in the series winning the first 2-1 in overtime and taking game two 3-1. So far in this series Strome has only been held to 1 goal. He does still have 11 points in 8 games so far this postseason which are pretty solid stats to have. The series continues tonight in Niagara.

The series is currently tied at a game apiece after two high scoring games. Shawinigan lost the first game in overtime 7-6 where Kabanov helped his team with a goal and three assists. He also was able to finish the game with a +1 rating. The second game Shawinigan pulled off a big victory winning 7-2. Kirill was able to finish the game with 2 assists. So far in the playoffs this season Kabanov has 10 points in 6 games. Similar to Niagara, Shawinigan also continues their series tonight. (Photo Credit: Flickr/lavantage)

Tonight is also a big night for future prospects of the Islanders as the NHL draft lottery will take place. This isn’t of course where the Islanders wanted to be this season but now that the season is over there is not much we can do to change it so mine as well root for the 1st overall. The Islanders finished with the 4th pick which gives them a 10.7% chance they are able to draft 1st overall. No matter how the lottery shakes out tonight the Islanders will be drafting in the top 5 in June.
