Isles Announce 23-Man Roster

The New York Islanders have officially decided on the roster for the 2013-2014 season. There are a few notable cuts, while a few recent draft picks have been given a chance to prove they deserve to remain in the big leagues.

It appears that Brock Nelson has edged out Ryan Strome, for now. Griffin Reinhart has been been granted a chance, likely due to the recent injury sustained by Travis Hamonic.

As many expected, Kevin Poulin has been awarded the back-up position behind Evgeni Nabokov, making Anders Nilsson the current starting goaltender for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Per the New York Islanders official press-release:

Hamonic has not been placed on the Injured Reserve, and the team hasn't made an official announcement in regards to his injury. But according to Arthur Staple of Newsday, the injury does not appear to be long term and could potentially be a concussion.

Cal Clutterbuck, who is on the IR after suffering a laceration to his leg during the preseason, may only miss the first two weeks or so of the regular season.

The Islanders will have to make some major decisions early on when deciding what to do with Nelson, Reinhart or even Peter Regin, once Clutterbuck and Hamonic are healthy.

Reinhart is eligible to play nine games before being sent back to Juniors and Nelson could easily be sent back to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers as well. So there are easy solutions. But determining which move to make will be the challenge.

Either way, head coach Jack Capuano will have to make some more changes to his roster once everyone is completely healthy. But for now, here are your 2014 New York Islanders.
