Misery Loves Company: Okposo Out Indefinitely
Just a few days after Islanders country learned that Mark Streit would be out for six months, likely missing all of if not close to the entire season, fans would also learn that Kyle Okposo will be out indefinitely with a torn labrum in his shoulder that will also require surgery.
According to a tweet via Katie Strang of Newsday:
"Okposo requires surgery to repair torn labrum in right shoulder, expected to miss 2-3 months."
Streit may have a buddy with him up until at least December.
In other news, the Islanders have signed former New Jersey Devil defenseman Mike Mottau to a two-year one-way contract worth $1.6 million. In 79 games played last season, the 32 year old d-man tallied 2 goals, 16 assists and 18 points. Although the Islanders have added yet another veteran presence to their blue line, they have not replaced the offensive fire power that has been lost in Mark Streit.
Many fans will remember Mottau for his vicious hit on Frans Nielsen two years ago that required the forward to miss considerable time to rehabilitate a leg injury.
It remains to be seen if anything will be done on offense to off-set the loss of Kyle Okposo.
