Ryan Strome Will Provide Hope For The Future

There is all but little hope for the New York Islanders to resurrect this season from the dead as they continue to plummet to the bottom of the NHL standings, having now lost 12 of their last 13 games after a 1-0 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens last night at the Coliseum (Photo credit: jennkuhn4/Flickr).

But there is Ryan Strome; a young scorer who should provide the Isles faithful with a glimmer of hope for the future.

Strome was recently called up from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and played his first NHL game last night. He did not register a point due to his team being shut out, but he seemed to carry himself with confidence on the ice last night and did not look out of place.

There was the occasional hit that Strome did not seem ready for; after all, NHL players are a little bigger than those of the AHL. But overall, Strome appears like he has plenty to offer to his team and fans this season.

Strome was leading the AHL in scoring with 33 points in 23 games played (nine goals and 24 assists). His play had made it perfectly clear that he had already moved beyond minor league play and was ready for his crack with the big leagues.

In the long run, Strome should provide the Islanders a nice one-two punch between him and John Tavares. At the very least, he will likely be a nice upgrade over some of the regular players on this team who have failed to contribute for the vast majority of the year.
