Introduction
Hello The Checking Line readers, my name is Shane Blackburn and I am the newest writer for The Checking Line- Isles Edition. Hockey has always been a large part of my life, I began playing at the age of five and stopped playing, competitively, at eighteen playing at the junior level. Currently I am still very involved in hockey as the coach of a local, Staten Island, high school varsity team and I plan on taking the officiating seminar and test this coming season.
From the moment I first watched hockey I knew it was going to be my favorite sport, and I have grown up as die hard Islanders' fan. As a hockey fan I can watch, read and listen to anything that has to do with the sport however, nothing takes precedence over the New York Islanders.

I had been writing my own blog before contacting the staff at The Checking Line and becoming the newest Isles' writer. In my posts I like to look at the analytical side of the game. I hope to keep The Checking Line's readers both informed and entertained through my posts.
I am extremely excited about joining the staff here at The Checking Line and am very grateful for the opportunity I have been presented with. Check back tomorrow for my first feature, the first of many. (Photo Credit: Insiderhockey/Flickr)
