Islanders Net Big win against the Ducks 3-2
New York, NY - The New York Islanders (6-18-5) were able to net a huge 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks (17-14-4) in hockey action on Thursday night hockey. The Islanders were powered by three goals in the first period of play, along with some stellar defense to earn a big win.
The Islanders recorded their first goal of the game on a P.A. Parenteau power play opportunity at the 15:06 mark in the first period of play. Blake Comeau made the score 2-0 for the Islanders , recording a wrist shot at the 15:34 mark. Matt Moulson then made the score 3-0 on a backhanded goal at the 16:45 mark which gave the Islanders a comfortable lead.
Anaheim would not go away quietly though as they were able to strike for their first goal on a power play opportunity in the second period. Joffrey Lupul would record a wrist shot at the 10:35 mark to cut the Islanders lead to 3-1.
The Ducks would strike again in the third period as former Islanders star Jason Blake would record a backhanded shot at the 1:30 mark to make the score 3-2. Thankfully for the Islanders fans in attendance the home team was able to hang on for the eventual 3-2 victory.
Islanders keeper Rick DiPietro was stellar making 30 saves in the victory, while on the other side of the ice Ducks keeper Jonas Hiller made 17 saves.
The Islanders will look to continue on their winning ways against the Phoenix Coyotes, who just lost to the two other metropolitan area teams. These two will face off on Saturday night action at 7:00 p.m.
