Losing streak reaches eight games as Islanders fall to Ducks, 1-0
New York, NY- The Islanders (4-9-2) losing streak reached eight games as they were blanked by the Anaheim Ducks (9-7-1) by the score of 1-0 in hockey action on Wednesday night. Ducks backup keeper Curtis McElhinney made 27 saves for his first career shutout.
The lone scoring hero for Anaheim was Saku Koivu, who struck in the early minutes of the third period to lead the Ducks to their fifth straight victory.
Anaheim was able to get 14 shots after having played an extensive schedule, it was just all bad news for the Islanders and their fans. New York just was not able to get any pucks past McElhinney, who is in his third full NHL season.
On the other end of the ice Islanders keeper Dwayne Roloson made 13 shots for the Islanders, who just have not been able to net any early offense. So far in the eight game losing streak they have allowed the other team to score first, thus giving them all the offensive momentum.
There is no rest for this weary Islanders team as they have a 10:30 p.m. face-off with the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.
