Shipping Up to Boston (Pregame thoughts)

The Islanders will make the second stop on their road trip when they take the ice in Boston to play the 2-0-1 Bruins.

No rest for the weary in Beantown. Islanders are fresh off of the first road contest of the year and they are riding high off of a 7 goal barrage in Toronto. Led by the scoring Michael Grabner and Matt Moulson, the Islanders stormed back from a 3-1 deficit on Thursday night.

They ride that momentum into tonight where they look to build on the confidence from last night. The Islanders are facing a steep challenge in the well rounded Bruins who will be well rested. Interestingly enough, the Islanders will have a side story to this already intriguing road trip.

In net for the Islanders will be Massachusetts native Rick DiPietro. He will be making his first start of the year relieving Nabokov on the back end of a back to back. This will be the first look at a newly healed and what seems to be, confident, Rick DiPietro.

Ricky will play a vital role in the Islanders' season. All teams in the NHL will place greater stock in the value of back up goaltenders with the schedule tightly packed.

If the Islanders can build a 1-2 punch similar or comparable to what St. Louis had last year Halak and Elliot, they will be in great shape. Teams will need to rely on two goalies as the season wears on and games take their toll on the players.

The Islanders have a built in excuse if they are to come out flat and get stream rolled by a talented Bruins team tonight.

However, in only 3 games they have shown that this team is a little bit different than most years. They are holding on to leads and comng back when down.

That sign of mental toughness has been a rarity for Islander teams in recent years.

All that Islander fans can hope for is that they keep building confidence as the season goes on. History has proven that confidence can carry a team to further heights than previosuly imagined.

Behind the gifted John Tavares, this young team can start to believe if they can squeak a win out in Boston.
