Introducing New TCL - Isles Blogger T.J. Weber; Lockout Over, Season Underway

The day has finally come. This is the day hockey fans have been waiting for.

Last night, the NHL and the Players’ Association ratified a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, ending the lockout and kicking off an abbreviated, 48-game season. Team training camps commence today and 26 teams, including the Isles, will play their first games on Saturday.

Fans and colleagues, my name is T.J. Weber and I am one of the newest editions to the TCL – Isles Edition staff. I will be writing and blogging for TCL throughout the season, keeping you up to date with the New York Islanders and all related news.

I have been a devoted Islanders fan since I was three years old. Being a long-time season ticket holder, my father took my brothers and I to the Coliseum for games consistently throughout my childhood and my love (and my loyalty) to the Isles have only grown as I’ve reached my young adult years.

This is more than just a sport, or a game, or a team to me. Being an Isles fan is a lifestyle.

I’m definitely not alone when I say that it’s not easy being an Islander fan. Being born in 1990, I haven’t really seen the franchise be real “winners” and the Stanley Cup years of the early 80s just seem like old ghost stories.

But that’s what keeps this fan base intact and coming back after each season. The hope that one day Lord Stanley’s Cup will once again be raised by an Islander captain.

This has been a big year for the NHL with the lockout and everything, but an even bigger year for the Isles. It was announced in October that come the 2015-2016 season, the Isles new home would be the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.

What can we expect out of the Islanders during this condensed hockey season, especially with this big news still fresh? Perhaps the team can pull some magic out of a hat and shock the NHL world with an impressive season record, or even a playoff run.

It has been an ambition of mine for a while to write about the New York Islanders, so I want to thank everyone at TCL for this opportunity. I look foward to giving all of you the latest on the Islanders throughout the season.

So, I encourage you on behalf of myself and the rest of the TCL – Isles Edition staff to stay tuned for our coverage on the New York Islanders. Our favorite game is back in business and our Islanders kick of the season against the New Jersey Devils on January 19.
